Meet Lucas Joyner

Lucas Joyner is an attorney based in London, Kentucky and has represented clients in Laurel, Knox, Clay, Jackson, Pulaski, Rockcastle and Whitley counties since 2006. Lucas is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts. As an attorney, Lucas is determined to protect the rights of his clients, and he has not shied away from taking on complicated and potentially contentious legal matters. During this time, he tried cases in front of countless judges and learned from some of the best. He witnessed how wisdom and discernment play a critical role in the courtroom.

As Family Court Judge, Lucas hopes to translate his legal skills and insight to the bench and help Knox and Laurel county children, families, and communities. After much prayer and conversation with his wife and children, Lucas is convinced that serving as 27th Circuit Family Court Judge is a wonderful opportunity to give back to Knox and Laurel Counties which have embraced him over the years.

Why Joyner4Judge?

Lucas is the proud father of four beautiful daughters. Yep, four! He currently serves on the East Bernstadt Independent School Board and has done so since being appointed by the Governor in May 2016.  He is a past and current youth basketball, soccer and softball coach, and works closely with his church’s youth and children’s ministries. He knows that children are precious gifts of God and all deserve a safe and loving home. As a family judge, Lucas will prioritize the well-being of children everyday.

Family courts deal with some of the most difficult cases as well as the most encouraging. Lucas’ oldest daughter is adopted and familiar with the important role judges, case workers, social workers and court staff play to help grow families in our community. He has also witnessed some of the more difficult times, many that were resolved with a healed family. Lucas values families and hopes to use the Family Court Judge position to strengthen families in our region.

Laurel County and the region welcomed Lucas in 2005 when he married Liza Joyner (née Ryser). Running for this position is a way Lucas hopes to give back to the community and region that has treated him extremely well.
